North Korea Attacks South Korea, World Watches and Waits
Beyond UCF, News, Politics, Safety — By Staff on November 23, 2010 at 12:46 pmSouth Korea’s president is calling for “enormous retaliation” after a South Korean island came under attack by North Korean artillery Tuesday, sparking fires and prompting South Korea to scramble fighter jets and return fire to defend itself.
“The provocation this time can be regarded as an invasion of South Korean territory,” said President Lee Myung-bak, according to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency.

According to South Korea’s YTN television, two people were hurt, homes were engulfed in flames and shells continued falling on the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong. The network reported four soldiers were also wounded.

The firefight comes just after North Korea claimed to have a new uranium enrichment facility and tensions over the announcement mounted.
