The University of South Florida Bulls lost their season opener in a disappointing game against the McNeese State Cowboys on Saturday.
“It was a nightmare,” USF Head Coach Willie Taggart said in the post game interview. “My worst fears happened.”
The Bulls scored an 80-yard touchdown in their first offenseive drive of the new season, but quickly fell apart — allowing the Cowboys to score three touchdowns within a five-minute span of the second quarter after a series of turnovers. By the third quarter, it was 40-7; by the end of the game, it was 53-21.
Taggart opened the post game interview with an apology to the Bull’s Nation, stating that the team’s performance was “awful.”
“I know exactly where this team is now after this first game,” Taggart said. “We’re nowhere near where we need to be. Our team is mentally fragile right now. We’ve got to get ourselves right.
The University of Central Florida Knights will face off against the bulls on Nov. 29 at Bright House Stadium.
