Blake Bortles was named as one of the 16 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien award, which commemorates the best quarterback in the nation.
Bortles is in good company as one of the finalists, others include Florida State’s Jameis Winston and Oregon’s Marcus Mariota.
UCF fans voted Bortles all the way up to first place in the initial fan vote, ahead of previous Heisman winner Johnny Manziel by four percentage points. On Monday, the semifinal round was reopened for voting.
Bortles is completing 67.2 percent of his passes this season, has thrown for 1,870 yards, and 15 touchdowns with four interceptions.
The three Davey O’Brien finalists will be announced Nov. 25, and the winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards Dec. 12 on ESPN.
