What event will be packing the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium with over 60,000 fans tomorrow night? It’s certainly no football game; this sport requires a lot more padding. We’re talking about MONSTER JAM.
Saturday, January 30th at 7pm, the iconic Grave Digger, along with many other famous monster trucks, such as 8 time World Champion Maximum Destruction and 2004 World Champion El Toro Loco, will be competing on the field. Dennis Anderson (the driver of Grave Digger) and the other drivers will be competing in side-by-side racing followed by everyone’s favorite: the freestyle competition. Each monster truck gets 90 seconds to show off their best tricks. We’re talking wheelies, donuts, jumps, and the thrashing and crashing of cars that makes the crowd go wild.
Today, KnightNews was able to interview Grave Digger’s driver, Dennis Anderson. But don’t worry, we made it out alive to write this story.
Dennis has been racing monster trucks for 28 years, ever since he first spray-painted “Grave Digger” on the side of his car. Today Grave Digger is a lot bigger, weighing in at about 10,000 pounds, and has the names of all the cars that it’s ‘killed’ painted in tombstones on both sides. Almost 30 years and 20 “Grave Diggers” later, (that’s right, tomorrow night he will be riding in Grave Digger XX) Dennis says that the thrill of the ride hasn’t ceased to excite him. He even said that he gets nervous sometimes! But riding in that mean, green, car-crushing machine, we find that tough to believe. Dennis Anderson wants all of you Knights out there tomorrow night to watch him and the Grave Digger tear up some cars.
