Victim: Vortex Amazing Owner Tried to Kill Me
Beyond UCF, Crime, News — By Staff on February 4, 2010 at 8:33 pmThe man many UCF students have come to love over the last few months as “Tom the Vortex Amazing Guy” was arrested Saturday after a man told deputies he tried to kill him.
KnightNews.com has also uncovered that the “Vortex Amazing Guy,” whose real name is Thomas Lloyd Glover, has been arrested before — on charges of aggravated assault and unlawful sexual activity with a 17-year-old girl.

A police report stated the alleged sexual activity with the 17-year-old took place in Cocoa in July of 2008 on three different occasions. Glover was 35 at the time.
As part of a plea deal, Glover pled guilty to aggravated assault with the intent to commit a felony against the 17-year-old, and prosecutors did not file the additional unlawful sexual activity charges, according to court records.
Part of the plea deal required Glover to have “no unsupervised contact with any female under the age of 18. He had his ajudication withheld, and was then sentenced to 5 years of probation.
Glovers’ arrest on Saturday, on charges of aggravated battery with great bodily harm, violated his probation, according to jail records. As a result, he’s being held without bond, so it appears the the Vortex Amazing may not be making its planned trip to Panama City for Spring Break anymore.
Even though the Vortex facebook page claimed its last night in the UCF area would be spent at the Kappa Sigma house during fraternity rush, Glover ended up sticking around the UCF area over the weekend. And early Saturday morning, Robert Dean said he saw a side of Glover that will likely shock many UCF students — especially those who invited him on their front lawn. BTW, he did not build it, he bought it from a manufacturer in Ohio!
uhhhhhhhh WTF’s a vortex amazing guy? i dont even go to UCF why am i on this website!!?!?!
Every one is jumping to conclusions. I was always taught there were two sides to every story, and that you were innocent until proven quilty. Some 17 year olds are very mature for their age and consenting, maybe not the first time, its only when Mom or Dad finds out that all hell breaks loose. Usually a punch, and all you guys know it ends up with another punch. Lets not draw conclusions until you hear the “REST OF THE STORY”
Vortex is retarded like the guy running it. Anyone who stopped off on the side of the road to “experience” it deserves an @$$ whooping.
fox news is #1
you make that sound like a bad thing….
Seeing as Knight News is the Fox news of the UCF area, I normally read everything hear with a large grain of salt. The gist of this story seems correct: the Vortex Amazing guy was out of line. But there are definite gaps or lies in the body of this kids story. I don’t really feel much sympathy for either party. However, I would like to see Vortex Amazing back in business, maybe with someone more level headed in charge.
@Andrew, I agree with all sentiments. However, the kid’s story is so suspect without provocation and does have contradicting statements. Where did his friend go in all of this? He blacked out for a small time, though became coherent soon after, and then loses his vision after probably a whole half-hour after the incident? It wouldn’t surprise me if he tried to claim brain damage. Sounds like he’s exaggerating the effects to gain sympathy of the police (and, later the court), which may imply that he’s not too confidant in his own story.
There’s probably no doubt that the owner did choke the kid, but it’s obvious that there’s some missing pieces here.
@Leeroy Jenkins
YES!!1! THE VORTEX AMAZING IS AMAZING. AND FOR ONLY $2 YOU CAN VORTEX ALL NIGHT!
This is just scary. I know lots of people that went there and who knows what could have happened to them with that creep owning it. I don’t believe that the victim made it up. You can’t fake red marks on a neck. The vortex guy is a pervert with a sexual assalt history. He should never have been around students, especially young women.
@Bob: Wow – you gotta be a friend or family of Vortex Guy. I mean I agree – I’m sure there was some provocation but at least try to cover up your bias a little bit if you want to be taken seriously. And discrediting the writing of the article? No one will notice your aim here.
@Sensationlist: Agreed. Any PR that is bad PR for Greek is a good PR angle for news.
@Fay: You’re a moron. You might be worse than Bob. “Why should being in contact with students only a few years older be ok?” I mean heck, some people get shafted out of voting in an election because they don’t turn 18 until a day or week or month later. I mean it’s close enough right, let them vote! Oh wait, because there’s a distinction between an adult and a minor.
I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THE VORTEX AMAZING. IS IT GOOD?
If anyone has seen interviews with Tom before, it is obvious that he was at some point on drugs before making the Vortex. I really wouldn’t be surprised if that was what provoked the attack. What really scares me was that he was not aloud to communicate with girls under 17 and yet is in contact with college aged girls all the time. some students are 17 when they enter college. Why should being in contact with students only a few years older be ok? I am glad he is in jail without bond.
Bob,
This guy is clearly nuts. He already has 2 previous arrests (one for assault), and you think there’s no way this could be true?! You are an idiot. The end.
It seems like people that commit thees type of acts of violence usually do it out of a religion obsession. They are total hypocrites and use religion to justify their sick behaviors. he will probably say that god told him to choke the kid and god told him to make the vortex. I doubt the kid made this up because this guy has a past of violence and sexual battery and once you do that kind of thing once it is very likely you will do it again.

is it REALLY necessary to drag kappa sigma into this? i mean, come on stein
You actually believe that? Sure, because making up a story about the idiot that runs Vortex Amazing is going to garner -huge- attention. Do you think anybody outside of UCF cares about some guy with a carpet covered in sparkles? Get out of here, dude. If you watch the interviews Knightnews has done with this guy, you’ll see that he is clearly delusional. Why are you so sure he wouldn’t do this?
After reading this three times to understand what it says because of the terrible grammar, I really doubt this is the case. From what it sounds, the “victim” is making all this up. Nothing adds up here, why would someone just explode from a normal conversation into a murderous rage unless there was some sort of provoking. Then, as the victim says he was about to black out and tried to do everything he could to get away and couldn’t, he somehow he is able to miraculously escape when he is almost blacked out. And lastly, why would someone who has such huge business plans and is so motivated for his business and career do something so stupid. Personally I think it is the “victim” just trying to get attention here and what better way than by accusing the owner of the most famous up-and-coming attraction in the area.
