ORIGINAL STORY FROM EARILIER IN THE AFTERNOON
Controversy erupted during the SGA Activity and Service Committee Meeting Friday, when SGA Comptroller Shane Chism made a motion to slash the Multicultural Student Center’s funding board budget to zero dollars.

Chism questioned whether the MSC funding board was needed. The SGA senate is also capable of giving out money to organizations through its own committees.

Other SGA members on the committee also called for changes to MSC, while others wanted to wait for members of the MSC to be present before voting to cut its funding board’s budget to zero. A vote, however, was taken anyway on Chism’s motion, but he was the only one to vote in favor of cutting the funding board’s budget. It failed 10-1-0.

After the vote, one of the members asked to reconsider her vote and then take a 15 minute recess. It appeared the issue would continue to be debated.

During the recess, two members of the committee were seen walking to the MSC office in the Student Union. It’s not clear what, if anything, was discussed and with who at that time.

Chism declined our request for comment during the recess, however KnightNews.com is still working to get more information on this developing story.

The meeting is still going on right now in the Student Union, Cedar Key room 222.
