ORIGINAL SATURDAY MIDNIGHT UPDATE:
KnightNews.com rode along with deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office during a “wolf pack” operation targeting drunks on the road near UCF Friday night.
OCSO’s Claude Leslie said the “wolf pack” style uses no permanent road blocks to catch intoxicated drivers. Instead, law enforcement roams a specific area, which in this case included streets near UCF.
Leslie told KnightNews.com 10 agencies are out tonight, all across the area. The detail includes about 60 officers.
The operation was headquartered at the UCF Police Department. Mothers Against Drunk Driving representatives were also on scene.

MADD’s Kelli Davis believes the “wolf pack” approach works.
“They are effective,” Davis told KnightNews.com. “The strong presence of officers on the roads also helps deter driving while intoxicated.”
As of the time this update was published just after midnight, the patrols were still going strong.
Earlier in the night, one of our Facebook fans noticed the increased law enforcement presence.
“Just drove from campus to chipotle and saw easily a dozen cops and 4 people pulled over,” David Montalvo posted.
KnightNews.com usually hears complaints from our readers when OCSO conducts underage drinking raids at local bars, but no one complained about OCSO hunting for drunk drinkers.
“Good,” posted Mindy Degnon. “They need to catch some drunk drivers who are stupid enough to drink and drive!!”
“I am happy that they are doing this,” Elissa Hope posted. “Good job!!”
